Ukrainian troops regularly cross Dnipro River, probing Russian defenses in Kherson Oblast. Ukrainian soldiers board a speedboat one by one. It sinks deeper into the water, weighed down by the men, their weapons, and equipment.

Main power line fails at Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant. The Ukrainian nuclear agency Energoatom reported on Aug. 10 that the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant lost power from the main 750 kilovolt (kV) power line overnight. The plant was then connected to the 330 kV backup line instead. The risk of this backup power line failing puts the largest nuclear plant in Europe on the verge of a blackout.

Ukrainian authorities start mandatory evacuation from Kupiansk district.

Due to increased Russian attacks, the local authorities began a mandatory evacuation of civilians from 37 settlements in the Kupiansk district, Kharkiv Oblast.

Ukraine announces ‘temporary corridor’ for civilian ships in Black Sea. Ukraine’s Naval Forces announced on Aug. 10 new temporary routes for civilian vessels moving to or from the Black Sea ports amid a Russia-declared blockade.

Report: Ukraine’s healthcare system suffered over 1,000 attacks over full-scale war. Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukrainian hospitals, medical workers, and healthcare infrastructure suffered at least 1,014 attacks, according to a report by a coalition of Ukrainian and international institutions published on Aug. 10.

Fire erupts at oil refinery in Belarus after Ukraine warns of Russian ‘provocation.’ A fire broke out at a gasoline production unit of the Mozyr oil refinery in southeastern Belarus on Aug. 10, the country’s emergency ministry reported. Earlier, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) said it had gathered intelligence indicating that Russia was preparing a large-scale false flag operation at the refinery.

UN rep condemns Russian attack on hotel in Zaporizhzhia. Denise Brown, the UN’s humanitarian coordinator in Ukraine, issued a statement condemning the Russian military’s Aug. 10 attack on the city of Zaporizhzhia.

Ukraine designates Bacardi as ‘international sponsor of war.’ Ukraine’s National Corruption Prevention Agency (NACP) added the world’s largest private alcohol company Bacardi Limited to the “international sponsors of war” list on Aug. 10. The Bermudian company continues to do business in Russia during its all-out war against Ukraine.

Yandex co-founder denounces Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. Arkady Volozh, co-founder of Russia’s most popular search engine Yandex, denounced Russian aggression against Ukraine in a statement published by the Russian independent outlet Meduza on Aug. 10.

Ex-official for pro-Russian party detained for attempted contract killing. Security forces announced the arrest of a former city council member after they prevented a contract killing he allegedly organized that targeted a council member in Zhmerynka, Vinnytsia Oblast.

Four people have been killed and 20 civilians have been injured as a result of two Russian attacks on Zaporizhzhia less than 24 hours apart. The attack hit a church and shops in the Shevchenkivskyi district of the city.

Human cost of war

Update: 1 killed, 16 injured in Zaporizhzhia strike, including 4 children. At least 16 people, including four children, were injured in a Russian missile strike against Zaporizhziha on Aug. 10, Governor Yurii Malashko said.

Russian strikes against Toretsk, Donetsk Oblast injure 6. Russian strikes against the town of Toretsk in Donetsk Oblast on Aug. 10 injured at least six people, the Donetsk Oblast Prosecutor’s Office reported.

1 dead, 2 injured in Russian strike against Kharkiv Oblast. Russian strikes against Kharkiv Oblast on Aug. 10 killed one resident and injured two more, regional governor Oleh Syniehubov reported.

Governor: Russian forces shell village in Kherson Oblast, injuring 6. Russian troops shelled Kherson Oblast’s village of Bilozerka on the west bank of the Dnipro River, wounding six people, Governor Oleksandr Prokudin reported on Aug. 10.

General Staff: Russia has lost 252,200 troops in Ukraine. According to the report, Russia has also lost 4,278 tanks, 8,303 armored fighting vehicles, 7,495 vehicles and fuel tanks, 5,028 artillery systems, 711 multiple launch rocket systems, 469 air defense systems, 315 airplanes, 313 helicopters, 4,179 drones, and 18 boats.

International response

Biden asks Congress for $24 billion for Ukraine aid, related needs. U.S. President Joe Biden asked Congress for $40 billion in additional spending, including $24 billion for Ukraine’s assistance and other international needs connected to Russian aggression, CNN reported on Aug. 10.

Duda: Ukraine needs more weapons to change balance of war. Ukraine needs more assistance as it most likely does not have enough weapons to change the balance of the war, Polish President Andrzej Duda said in an interview with the Washington Post on Aug. 10.

Ambassador: Azerbaijan to train Ukrainian sappers. Azerbaijan’s demining experts will train Ukrainian sappers, the Interior Ministry reported on Aug. 10, citing Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Ukraine Seymour Mardaliev.

Polish Defense Minister: 10,000 troops to be stationed at border with Belarus.

The Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak said on Aug. 10 that 10,000 soldiers will be moved to the country’s border with Belarus “to scare away the aggressor so that it does not dare attack us.” He told a public radio interviewer that 4,000 will directly support the Border Guard and 6,000 will be in the reserve.
